"There really are no mistakes."

November 20, 2024

When I drew this person walking, I was initially bummed that I accidentally crossed their arms. Not wanting to redraw the whole poster, I turned my mistake into a joke by adding the dogs and leashes. If you’ve walked two dogs, maybe you’ve experienced this 😆

That was a couple weeks ago. When I looked at it on my office wall again today, I saw something else: myself.

This is how I’ve felt the last two weeks. Pulled between investing my life force into work I care about, my desire to spend more time with people I love, and the basic need to take care of myself.

As my colleague Adrian McIntyre said when he saw it, "There really are no mistakes."

He was joking — sort of. Sometimes mistakes illuminate a hidden truth. And sometimes, these metaphors hold an answer, too.

It’s time to let the dogs run free.
